ORBT Recap 2020

This year has been hard a lot of people. For ORBT though it has been better than we hoped.
We more than doubled our members. I started a website, http://www.OzarakRailandBusTransit.com to extend our reach. Our members participated in a survey by NWA Regional Planning Commission that helped push our agenda for green EV’s in the transit fleet. The last part of the survey period was in 2020 anyway. We learned that not only do we have a Regional Transit Authority (sort of, there is some clarification needed), but the 4 Towns * agreed to dedicate a one fourth cent sales tax to funding mass transit. Dedicated funding is very important and now it’s on the way.

We have a new President and administration that wants to fund the development of mass transit including transit buses, Amtrak, and High Speed Rail in towns and cities over 100,000 population. NWA has way over 500,000 population so we can look forward to seeing that money too.

We have plenty of opportunities for activism and while there is hard work ahead, there is no reason to think we won’t succeed.

So here’s to 2021 and the possibility of a greener future for our community.

And btw, do any of you of a lawyer who is sympathetic to our agenda? Becoming a 503c non-profit is one of our goals.

*the 4 Towns are Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, and Bentonville
